Dr. Balish is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Medical School. He completed his training in Ophthalmology at the Casey Eye Institute in 1998.
Dr. Balish is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a fellow in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He is a Clinical Instructor at Oregon Health & Science University.
His practice of general ophthalmology includes everything from routine eye examinations, to treatments for glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts. His area of expertise includes Laser Vision Correction, and Advanced Vision Correction using focusing and multifocal intraocular lenses.
Dr. Balish uses the most advanced technology combined with surgical skill and a caring personality to provide the safest and most accurate treatments for his patients. He is Portland’s first and most experienced surgeon providing Crystalens accommodating intraocular lenses to his patients. He is Portland’s first and only doctor to provide the Staar Visian Implantable Collamer Lens for nearsightedness. And, he is the first and only Portland surgeon to use the micro-incisional cataract surgery technique. Dr. Balish has twelve years of experience in performing Laser refractive surgery.
