Gilbert C. Child, M.D.

Dr. Child is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and practices comprehensive Ophthalmology with an emphasis on cataract and glaucoma care.
Born in Pontiac, Michigan, he grew up in Texas and Oklahoma and graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in physiology. After obtaining his Medical Degree from the University Of Oklahoma College of Medicine, he performed a rotating surgery internship at Oregon Health & Science University where he fell in love with the Pacific Northwest. He returned to Portland after finishing an Ophthalmology residency at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine and has been happy in private practice in Portland ever since.
Dr. Child was president of Oregon Eye Specialists for 10 years and is a clinical professor at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center. He has been a consultant for the Oregon Commission for the Blind, served as chairman of Ophthalmology for Providence St. Vincent Hospital, and as a board member of the Providence Health Systems Portland Service Area Governing Council. He makes regular trips to Guatemala and Bolivia to help reduce the backlog of treatable blindness in their impoverished people. His goal is to continue to provide quality service to those who seek his help.
His active pursuits include skiing, bicycle riding, fly fishing and mountaineering. He enjoys dining and attending cultural events with his wife and daughter and spends his spare moments tending his roses and building wooden models while listening to his favorite music.
